The Moroccan national football team is preparing to officially enter history by occupying fifth place in the world in the upcoming monthly classification of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), achieving the best position in its history, and the highest classification reached by any Arab team since the adoption of the monthly classification system in 1993, while equaling the historical achievement of the Nigerian national team, which previously reached the same position.
This historic progress for the “Atlas Lions” came from the Brazilian team’s positive 1-1 draw against its Australian counterpart in the friendly match that brought them together on Friday.
Before the release of the September 2026 classification, the Brazilian team was in fifth place with 1804.92 points, narrowly ahead of the Moroccan team in sixth place with 1803.99 points. However, Samba’s faltering led to it losing decisive points and falling to sixth place, which enabled the team of captain Achraf Hakimi to snatch fifth place globally, even before playing their match in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Gabon national team in the capital, Rabat.
