The Portuguese Jose Mourinho was appointed coach of Real Madrid at the request of the club’s management, with the aim of rebuilding the team and ushering in a new successful era, after two seasons devoid of titles, amid a start characterized by varying results.
In statements he made on the “Bet it Drives” podcast, Mourinho confirmed that his connection with the Royal Club has remained strong since his departure in 2013, noting that the management contacted him following the decline in results and assigned him the task of restructuring the team and establishing the foundations of a new golden contract.
The coach revealed the content of his motivational and disciplinary message to the players, as he addressed them by saying: “Do not betray me, and I am talking here about football. Stand by me and do not betray me and I will always be with you,” stressing that reaching the summit is impossible without a commitment that goes far beyond the hours allocated for training and official matches.
In a related context, the coach set strict limits on the personal lives of the team’s players, indicating that staying up late and going out is permitted exclusively on the night following match days. He also warned that talent alone does not give any player the right to excel at the expense of the group, considering that any player who allows his ego to overshadow his talent cannot be considered a true star.
