With the approach of the first winter … is the scenario of drowning and chaos repeated?

Negly, the Lebanese alerted this year the “first winter”, waiting for it as someone who awaits a dose of life after a cruel year in which the fall, the wells dried up, thirsty the springs and the crops withered, until the water crisis turned into a catastrophe comparable to and may exceed the electricity crisis that does not leave the Lebanese diaries.
However, with this waiting, mixed with hope, another concern sneaks: the scene of the “first winter” as we used to every year, when the roads turn into small rivers with which the cars are swept away and the citizens remain stuck in hours in a suffocating crowd. The bitter paradox that the state, every year, behaves as if the rain was a heavenly surprise that was not taken into account. There are no prior plans, no cleaning of sewage streams, and no preventive procedures. The expected good turns into a renewed curse, the capital and cities drown in chaos with the first rain of rain. Starting from this reality, the founder of “Yaza” Ziad Aqel via “Lebanon 24” directed a warning with the approaching rainy season, from the repetition of the annual tragedy experienced by the Lebanese as a result of the blockage of exchange networks and the absence of preventive maintenance.
Aqel pointed out that Lebanon witnessed in the past years dozens of cars and citizens inside the tunnels and areas crowded with water, in addition to the occurrence of many injuries and deaths due to traffic accidents caused by the torrents, as well as huge financial losses estimated at millions of dollars in property and infrastructure. And the flagrant failure by most of the municipalities and ministries concerned. Urgent and demands before the rainy season
Aqel called for several basic steps: the first of which is a comprehensive cleaning of all rainwater drainage networks as soon as possible, provided that it is done before the end of September to ensure the preparation of the roads at the beginning of the season. Second, adopting continuous emergency maintenance and monitoring plans during the winter to avoid any floods or subsequent damages. Third, the parallel bodies be held by the legal and penal responsibility for any victims or health damages that affect citizens, including the epidemics resulting from the water gathering in homes and streets. He also called on citizens to stop throwing waste in public roads that block water and rivers, in order to preserve their safety and the safety of others. He called on the relevant ministries, especially the Interior, Energy and Public Works, to move immediately to clean networks, waterways and rivers, with a daily follow -up mechanism to ensure full implementation. A passing rainy season, but rather a real measure of the state’s ability to protect the Lebanese from chaos and disasters that are repeated annually. With every inaction, rain turns from a blessing to a direct threat to life and property. Will the state this time fulfill its responsibilities before the first drops turn into a new tragedy?
