The New Municipality in the face of sectarian threats and incitement: Do not submit to intimidation in defense of Canaan

The Municipality of Jdeideh – Bouchrieh – Al Sadd denounced, in a statement, the contents of a video clip that was circulated recently, considering that it included slander, false information, and a direct attack on the head of the municipal council and its members, in addition to attacking and inciting MP Ibrahim Kanaan, especially with sectarian dimensions. The municipality confirmed that the video publisher has no representative connection to the people of the region, announcing recourse to the competent judiciary by placing the clip and all other data related to it at the disposal of the relevant authorities.

The municipality explained that what was raised in the recording comes in the context of a fabricated campaign with exposed goals, which included threatening expressions that were rejected in form and content, stressing that it will move forward in taking the necessary legal measures against everyone proven to be involved in threats, defamation, spreading false information, or inciting sectarian strife, and everyone proven to participate or interfere in these acts.

The municipality stressed that the owner of the clip does not have any capacity to speak on behalf of the people of the region or any of its components, warning against attempts to reduce the people to someone who is in a confrontation with the municipality over the implementation of laws. In this context, the municipality placed this escalation within the framework of its commitment to performing its duties of suppressing violations, protecting public property, enabling the municipal police to perform its duties, and collecting the legally required municipal fees.

She stressed that objecting to the application of the law or seeking to protect private interests does not justify launching campaigns of threats and accusations and presenting them to public opinion as a defense of people’s rights, stressing that rights are matched by duties, and that public property does not belong to anyone, and calling on all those demanding services to respect the law and pay their obligations.

The municipality pointed out that it does not target any person, sect or group, and does not engage in settling personal scores, affirming its intention to apply the law to everyone without exception or yielding to any pressure, and stressing that the law and the judiciary are the valid reference for any objection, not threats or imposing a fait accompli. He also condemned the attempt to drag the issue into a sectarian or religious debate, considering that dressing the administrative and legal procedures in a sectarian nature is dangerous and unacceptable, aiming to incite tensions among the people of the region.

In a clear message about coexistence, the municipality affirmed that “there are no lessons for anyone regarding coexistence,” stressing that Al-Jdeideh, Bouchrieh, and Al-Sad will remain an incubating space for all its people, equally and without discrimination.

The municipality renewed its full respect for freedom of opinion and expression and the right of every citizen to accountability and accountability within legal frameworks, noting that this freedom does not justify threats, spreading lies, harming the dignity of people and institutions, obstructing the work of municipal agencies, sectarian incitement, or trying to impose the status quo by force and intimidation.

The municipality concluded by affirming that it will not submit to threats and will not back down in the face of intimidation or stop the course of law enforcement, stressing that the law is above everyone, that public property is a protected right for all, and that the prestige of institutions is a non-negotiable red line.
