“Imminent danger” in Bisri... The movement warns against transporting chemical waste and calls for a protest

The Jezzine District Authority of the “Free Patriotic Movement” warned against transporting chemical waste from the Lebanon Electricity facilities to the Bisri Dam and its surroundings, considering that the matter constitutes a threat to the health of the people and the agricultural and water wealth in the region.

The authority said, in a statement, that “the Jezzine region is facing imminent danger after we received information indicating the transfer of chemical waste from the Lebanon Electricity facilities to the Bisri Dam and its surroundings,” stressing that it will not stand “idly by and bear false witness to what threatens the health of our people and our agricultural and water wealth.”

The authority called on the people and stakeholders to participate in a protest to be held on Friday, August 14, at 11:30 a.m. in the vicinity of the Church of Our Lady of Bisri, in rejection of what it described as “tampering with our health and our existence.”

She stressed that confronting this issue requires concerted efforts regardless of affiliations and orientations, stressing that the responsibility lies with everyone in order to ward off the danger and defend the interests of the people of the region.
