The “Lebanon Debate” correspondent reported that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in coordination with the National Litani River Authority and with the support of the Lebanese Army, began implementing an alternative water ferry for the destroyed bridge in the Qaqiyat al-Jisr area, as part of addressing the damage caused by the Israeli attacks on bridges and vital installations in the south.
The project aims to secure a safe crossing over the Litani River, allowing the reconnection of the southern regions whose movement was affected as a result of the damage to the bridge, and facilitating the passage of citizens and vehicles, in addition to transporting agricultural products to and from the region.
The National Litani River Authority is keeping pace with the work from a technical standpoint, in coordination with the Ministry of Works, the consultant and the contractor, with the aim of ensuring that the project is implemented in accordance with hydraulic and structural safety requirements.
Follow-up also includes maintaining the proper flow of the Litani River’s waters, avoiding any impact on the river’s course, in addition to protecting the facilities associated with it during the implementation of the alternative crossing.
The implementation of the ferry comes within the emergency plan drawn up to address the repercussions of the war and the damage to infrastructure, especially bridges, roads, and vital installations in the affected areas.
The crossing is supposed to constitute a temporary solution to secure movement and open the way for residents, machinery, and agricultural activities, until the bridge and damaged permanent facilities are rehabilitated and returned to service.
The Israeli attacks caused damage to a number of roads, bridges and facilities in the south, which led to the cutting off or obstruction of some movement routes, and prompted the official authorities to adopt temporary solutions to reopen the crossings and ensure communication between the affected towns and areas.
