Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmed Al-Hajjar and Minister of National Defense Michel Mansi, along with British Ambassador Hamish Cowell, signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the “British Security Support Program in Lebanon” (ISAP), during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Sanayeh.
The memorandum was signed in the presence of the Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Raed Abdullah, and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Planning in the Lebanese Army, Brigadier General George Saqr, in addition to a number of concerned parties in the Ministries of Interior and Defense and the British Embassy.
Al-Hajjar, Mansa and Cowell stressed that “this partnership reflects the depth of existing cooperation between Lebanon and the United Kingdom, and the keenness to continue joint work in the security field and enhance the capabilities of the Lebanese military and security institutions.”
The “British Security Support Program in Lebanon” aims to strengthen efforts aimed at consolidating security and reducing the factors causing instability in Lebanon, as well as empowering the security institutions that constitute the backbone of the Lebanese state and enhancing its ability to withstand in the face of internal and external threats.
The program focuses primarily on supporting the Ministries of Interior and Defense, along with their affiliated institutions and agencies, most notably the Internal Security Forces and the Lebanese Army.
The program also includes enhancing the ability to confront security threats, including combating armed groups and criminal violence, as well as rehabilitating and equipping facilities and installations, supporting the infrastructure and digital infrastructure for the police work model based on intelligence information, in addition to providing the necessary training.
