The repercussions of the dispute that broke out between Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Defense Minister Michel Mansi are still interacting, against the backdrop of the latter being prevented from giving a speech during the legislative session, in which he was scheduled to express the position of the Lebanese army on the amnesty law before its approval.
In this context, information was circulated about the Minister of Defense’s intention not to participate in today’s cabinet session, in protest against what happened, especially after the statement of apology he addressed to the families of the army martyrs, pledging that “silence will not be fate, and yesterday’s disappointment will not be the end of the story,” an indication that reflects the extent of the dissatisfaction that is plaguing him.
According to exclusive information from Lebanon Debate, the Minister of Defense will not participate in today’s cabinet session, despite the efforts made to contain the dispute, whether by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri or other political parties.
Information indicated that lengthy meetings were held yesterday evening, bringing together a number of ministers with President Salam, and continued until a late hour, in an attempt to find a way out that would prevent the disagreement from affecting the government’s work at this stage, but these efforts did not lead to any result.
This morning, President Salam visited the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, but the statement of the Presidency of the Republic indicated that the discussion was limited to the southern file, without addressing the dispute that broke out between Salam and Mansi, noting that the Minister of Defense is affiliated with the President of the Republic’s share in the government, which raises question marks about how to deal with the repercussions of the crisis within the executive authority.
