Joshua Kimmich, Bayern Munich midfielder, expressed his deep gratitude for the great support he received from his club, the German Football Association, and those close to him, following the death of his father, stressing that this standing by his family left a deep impact on him during this difficult stage.
Kimmich’s statements came after his team’s draw against Borussia Dortmund (2-2), where he described the institutional and personal support, as well as attending the funeral ceremony, as “very special,” adding: “It showed me that I am in exactly the right place here.”
The Dortmund summit witnessed the return of the 31-year-old German international to the green rectangle for the first time since the death of his father, a period during which he missed Bayern Munich’s last three matches.
Kimmich took the captaincy in this anticipated confrontation against the traditional rival, to compensate for the absence of injured captain Manuel Neuer. The player gave an exceptional performance. He touched the ball 103 times and created three scoring chances, making him one of the most prominent stars of the match.
