It is expected that a bilateral meeting will be held between Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York City, on the sidelines of the session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to what Sky News Arabia sources reported, in the absence of official details about the date of the meeting or its specific agenda so far.
This anticipated meeting comes within a broad diplomatic movement led by Salam in New York to discuss the Lebanese crises and current regional developments. In this context, the Prime Minister held discussions with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, which focused on the fate of the international presence in southern Lebanon after the end of the mission of the International Emergency Forces (UNIFIL). During the meeting, Salam stressed the need to avoid any security vacuum, while highlighting the importance of supporting the Lebanese army to enable it to fully extend state authority.
On the other hand, the participation of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in the General Assembly meetings comes at a time when surrounded by escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, during which diplomatic efforts are continuing to contain the raging confrontation in the region. Although news of the meeting was circulated through the channel’s sources, no official announcement has yet been issued confirming its holding or revealing the topics of its discussion.
