Speculators and electronic device dealers in China suffered huge financial losses, following a sharp and rapid decline in the resale prices of the foldable “iPhone Duo” phone, contrary to expectations that promoted achieving profits by taking advantage of the limited supply in the markets.
Media reports reported that the decline in demand, along with the emergence of technical problems related to the screen hinge and software, led to a significant decline in demand for the device. This situation has led some merchants, who invested huge sums of money to buy it in large quantities and at high prices, to incur losses ranging from tens to hundreds of thousands of yuan.
These large losses came as a result of speculators overestimating the size of consumer demand, coinciding with the improvement in supply levels and the dwindling opportunities for making profits from resale, which turned the deal that was bet on being a “golden opportunity” into an expensive and losing investment.
