The living situation is at a stage of extreme danger

Al-Diyar newspaper reported that living conditions in the country have touched red lines in various aspects of life, amid a comprehensive absence of the state and widespread confusion in dealing with various issues.

In the educational field, the “Teachers’ Associations” confirmed the irregularity of classes in public schools so far, noting that contract teachers did not receive their salaries for last year despite the promises made by the Minister of Education to resolve this issue. Accordingly, contractors refuse to resume teaching before receiving their dues.

On the other hand, the educational process is proceeding normally for Syrian students, after the United Nations raised the hourly wage from 9 to 11 dollars and provided all necessary supplies. In the face of this reality, teachers in various cadres are preparing to go on a series of strikes in cooperation with contract professors at the Lebanese University, with public sector employees joining them two days a week.

On the economic and living front, trade union statistics show that a Lebanese family of five needs about $1,500 a month to secure its most basic needs, apart from health and educational emergencies and winter heating work. This is accompanied by a fluctuation in prices governed by the whims of merchants, and manipulation of gas station meters, in light of an official deficit acknowledged by the Minister of Economy, Amer Al-Bassat, who warned in advance of the outbreak of a social revolution.

The most dangerous development is highlighted by the decline in remittances from expatriates to their families coming from the Gulf countries by 40%, and the loss of hundreds of young people’s jobs as a result of military developments, in addition to the decline in social, educational and health assistance provided by parties.

These interwoven facts warn of the possibility of social unrest, escalating rates of insecurity, shaking public stability, and imposing royalties (“khawat”), which places the security forces facing additional burdens as a result of internal disputes amid the absence of any logistical or political solutions on the horizon.
