On Friday, the Chinese State Council urged government agencies to take practical measures to limit the decline in jobs resulting from the expansion of artificial intelligence applications, according to new guidelines aimed at containing the negative repercussions of this technology on the labor market.
According to what was reported by Reuters, the directives call on the relevant authorities to improve mechanisms for monitoring employment risks associated with artificial intelligence, and to formulate contingency plans capable of quickly responding to those risks and addressing their potential effects.
The document also stressed the need to provide the necessary support for career transition and re-employment processes, especially in sectors and projects that may witness widespread disruptions in labor markets as a result of the introduction of these technologies.
On the other hand, the guidelines emphasize the importance of enhancing the positive effects of artificial intelligence on the labor sector, by creating new opportunities and raising the quality of existing jobs, in addition to providing targeted career guidance, skills training programs, and job recommendations to affected workers to help them find suitable job alternatives.
At the level of institutional regulation, the proposed measures include controlling the use of artificial intelligence in the human resources management sector, and firmly addressing illegal practices resulting from the misuse of algorithms.
The directives identified a number of these unacceptable practices, most notably discrimination in employment, fraudulent recruitment processes, and violation of personal privacy.
These trends, according to the “Erm News” website, reflect the strategy of the Chinese authorities aimed at balancing technological innovation with protecting job stability, through an integrated system that includes monitoring risks, supporting affected workers, and imposing strict controls on the use of algorithms in the work environment.
