The General Directorate of Customs expanded its security operations to combat smuggling in the north of the country, where the Smuggling Investigation Division in Tripoli and the Land Control Division carried out a series of raids and monitoring operations that resulted in the seizure of unlicensed food supplements and proteins, smuggled food items suspected of tampering with their expiration dates, in addition to quantities of smuggled tobacco in the cities of Tripoli and Zgharta.
In field details, a patrol belonging to the Wildlife Control Division in Tripoli raided a number of shops dedicated to selling proteins and food supplements in Tripoli and Zgharta, and seized various types and quantities of them that were not legally licensed.
In a separate operation, the Smuggling Investigation Division in Tripoli intercepted a pickup truck loaded with smuggled foodstuffs, and its cargo was seized, amid suspicions of tampering with the expiration dates of some of these materials. The same division was also able to seize an additional quantity of smuggled tobacco within the city of Tripoli.
All seized items were transferred to the competent centers to take the necessary legal measures in accordance with the rules, while customs arrested the violators and began their investigations under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
The General Directorate of Customs confirmed that these operations come within the framework of its ongoing tasks to combat smuggling, especially with regard to goods and materials that directly affect consumer health and food safety, stressing the continuation of the strike with an iron fist to deter violators.
