Samsung quietly launched its new smartphone, “Galaxy A18 4G,” in a number of European markets, making it available exclusively in a version that supports fourth-generation networks, at a time when the company has not yet revealed the fifth-generation version, “Galaxy A18 5G,” following the appearance of official press releases about it in France, Norway, and Sweden.
The phone is a limited update compared to the previous version, “Galaxy A17 4G”, and the most prominent change in it is the dispensing of the “Helio G99” processor in favor of the relatively new “Exynos 1610” processor, the technical details of which Samsung has not yet fully disclosed.
In terms of durability, the phone received an “IP64” rating for dust and water resistance, achieving an improvement compared to the “IP54” rating in the previous generation, while the battery capacity of 5000 mAh was borrowed with support for 25-watt fast charging, which allows it to be charged by 50% within about 30 minutes according to the official specifications.
The device comes with a 6.7-inch “Super AMOLED” screen, with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, while retaining the upper notch that includes a 13-megapixel front camera.
On the back, the phone includes a three-camera system. A 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 lens aperture without optical image stabilizer (OIS), along with a 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera, with the ability to record 1080p video at a rate of 30 frames per second and without significant improvements compared to the last generation.
The phone runs on the “Android 17” operating system, accompanied by the “One UI 9” user interface from the first moment, with the company’s commitment to providing updates to the operating system for a period of 6 years, while security updates remain in effect until the end of October 2032.
In terms of design, the phone witnessed slight increases in thickness and weight, reaching a thickness of 7.7 mm and a weight of 196 grams, compared to a thickness of 7.5 mm and a weight of 190 grams for the Galaxy A17 4G.
Regarding prices on the European continent, the phone has become available through the “Samsung” store in France in a single version that includes 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage capacity at a price of 280 euros, with support for external storage cards “microSD”, and color options are available between grey, light blue, and black.
In Norway, the price of the 128 GB version is about 3,290 Norwegian kroner, while the price of the 256 GB version rises to 5,190 Norwegian kroner, which are the same prices in Swedish currency (3,290 and 5,190 Swedish kroner for the two versions, respectively) in Sweden, although the device has not officially appeared on electronic stores there yet.
It is noteworthy that the pricing of the “Galaxy A18 4G” was higher compared to the launch price of the previous generation. The “Galaxy A17 4G” was launched last year at a price of 200 euros, offering a larger RAM of 6 GB in addition to an internal storage space of 128 GB.
