Today, Abdel Hamid Karami (Al-Nour) Square in the city of Tripoli witnessed a massive sit-in at the invitation of trade union, Islamic and popular bodies, in solidarity with the Islamist detainees in Lebanese prisons, and in rejection of the appeal submitted by the “Strong Lebanon” bloc against the general amnesty law before the Constitutional Council.
Representative Ashraf Rifi participated in the protest, who delivered a speech in which he focused on demanding “justice and lifting oppression,” considering that a number of those arrested had not been subjected to fair trials, and directing sharp criticism of the performance of the military court in previous stages, which he linked to “the Syrian regime and Hezbollah.”
Rifi demanded the reopening of the investigation into the assassination of Major General François Al-Hajj and the martyrdom of Lieutenant Samer Hanna, asking about the actual perpetrators, saying: “We know who killed the army members, so whoever killed Samer Hanna is the one who killed the army members.”
Regarding the military issue, Rifi renewed his adherence to the military institution, describing it as “Akkar’s tank,” and stressing his rejection of any doubt about the Lebanese army, saying: “We are with the army, it is our army, and doubting the Lebanese army is fallen,” stressing that no one has the right to outbid the people of the region in their military loyalty.
On the sovereign and political level, Rifi escalated his tone towards Hezbollah, describing it as a “small Iranian agent,” and adding: “Just as the tyrant of Damascus fell, the tyrant of Lebanon, Hezbollah, will fall in Beirut.” He concluded by emphasizing the continuation of the confrontation in the squares and the House of Representatives, declaring his permanent support for the families of the detainees until their demands are met.
