Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, called for the need to reopen channels of dialogue between the various political forces, stressing that the current stage requires them to meet at one table to confront the increasing crises and challenges that the country is going through, in light of the political and security pressures surrounding Lebanon.
Regarding internal political matters, Berri’s visitors quoted him as categorically rejecting any rupture between President Joseph Aoun and Hezbollah, considering that such measures are not in the interest of either party and do not serve the national interest of the Lebanese.
On the level of legislation, the Speaker of Parliament commented on the parliamentary approach to submit a law proposal to abolish the Israel Boycott Law, confirming his anticipation of this proposal by saying: “I am waiting for it with the utmost eagerness,” and warning at the same time of the danger of harming this law by saying: “Let everyone remember that matters have not escaped or been tolerated in Lebanon before Israel to this degree.”
These positions confirm the Speaker of the House of Representatives’ adherence to the path of internal dialogue as an inevitable option to avoid divisions, in parallel with raising the ceiling on positions objecting to any possible efforts to amend or repeal laws of a sovereign and national nature.
