Rasamny discusses developments in the IMEC economic corridor and prospects for modernizing the port of Ouzai

The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, reviewed the latest developments related to the India-Middle East and Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) project, and the steps necessary to enhance Lebanon’s presence in it and invest in its promising opportunities.

In this context, Minister Rasamny chaired a meeting with the negotiating delegation for the project, during which what Lebanon had accomplished was evaluated and the requirements for the next stage were determined. The research focused on developing the logistical and technical capabilities of the ports of Beirut and Tripoli, and enhancing integration between sea, land and railway transport to facilitate the movement of goods, transit and re-export, ensuring the integration of the Lebanese ports into the project’s regional logistics network. These efforts come as a continuation of the participation of the ports of Beirut and Tripoli in establishing the “IMEC Ports Club” in New Delhi, which provides broader horizons for exchanging experiences and developing joint initiatives.

On the other hand, Rasamny reviewed the study on the development of the Ouzai port for fishermen, which was prepared by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with funding from the German Development Bank (KfW), with the aim of modernizing the port’s infrastructure. The study meeting was attended by the Director General of Land and Maritime Transport, Brigadier General Mazen Basbous, and the President of the Federation of Southern Suburb Municipalities, Engineer Muhammad Dergham, along with representatives of the United Nations Development Program and Credo Company.

Regarding diplomatic matters, Minister Rasamny received in his office the Deputy Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Beirut, Keith Hanigan, where the general situation and current developments in the country were presented.
