Two new arrests in London and Fairford on suspicion of links to Iran

On Tuesday, British anti-terrorism police re-arrested two men in connection with the investigation into a sensitive security incident linked to Fairford Air Base, amid suspicion of their cooperation with a foreign intelligence service identified by the authorities in Iran.

The police explained that the two detainees are a 24-year-old British citizen, and another 25-year-old holding dual British and Iranian citizenship, both from London. They were arrested again under the National Security Law, after they were previously arrested as part of the same investigation and then released on bail.

The details of the case go back to September 27, when the police arrested five men near Fairford Air Base, before later arresting two additional people, bringing the total number of those arrested in the case to seven people, all of whom were previously released on bail as investigations continued, without any of them being formally charged yet.

Investigations reported that during inspections, the authorities found quantities of gasoline inside three vehicles near the military base, without finding any explosive devices.

In the same context, Counter-Terrorism Police official Lawrence Taylor confirmed that investigations are still ongoing with a strong possibility of Iran’s involvement in the case, while Tehran previously denied any connection to the incident.

The “Fairford” base is of great strategic importance due to its use by American forces to operate long-range bombers, in addition to launching strikes from it that targeted Iran during the conflict recorded this year, which places any suspicions about an attempt to target it at the core of the concerns of the security services in both Britain and the United States.

These developments coincide with the escalation of tension between Iran and the United States and its allies, in addition to the imposition of strict security measures around military installations and bases associated with American operations.
