The Prime Minister, Dr. Nawaf Salam, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raji, and Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmed Arafa, participated today in the opening of the general debate of the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
On the sidelines of the Assembly’s work, Minister Youssef Raji held a meeting with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. The two sides discussed the latest developments in the general situation in Lebanon, as well as developments in the negotiating track with Israel.
During the meeting, Cardinal Parolin affirmed the Holy See’s great interest in Lebanese affairs, stressing the importance of returning stability to Lebanon as soon as possible.
This meeting comes within the framework of a series of intensive diplomatic contacts and meetings held by the Lebanese delegation on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings, with the aim of keeping pace with political and security developments related to Lebanon and the Middle East region.
