Member of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, MP Ghassan Atallah, directed sharp criticism at the Ministry of Displaced Persons against the backdrop of its recent announcement demanding that the files be completed before the end of this year, considering that this step comes after “a year and a half of complete absence” and prevents the Ministry from attending parliamentary interrogation sessions.
In a post on the “X” platform, Atallah expressed his surprise at this announcement, wondering why it was issued after a long period of absence from parliamentary oversight. He explained that the displacement file has been going on for 36 years, pointing out that a clear plan has been completed and the files related to it have been completed for years.
The representative accused the ministry of exhausting citizens by imposing additional requests, which he described as “fake,” aimed at justifying demands for larger financial budgets. He stressed that “the files are complete and the rights are clear,” and that the priority lies in securing the necessary funds to pay citizens’ dues instead of demanding new papers. Atallah concluded his statement by emphasizing the need to stop “belittling people’s minds and torturing them.”
