FIFA has confirmed the end of the working relationship between Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour and the game’s governing body, weeks after he publicly criticized President Gianni Infantino’s plan to sell a stake in the commercial activities of tournaments organized by the federation, including the World Cup.
A FIFA spokesman said on Monday: FIFA confirms that the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour, in his capacity as Chief Operating Officer, has ended on August 17, 2026. It thanks Kevin for his services over the past two years, and wishes him all the best in the future. The Federation will not make any further comment on this matter.
Secretary-General Matthias Grafström informed staff and council members of Lamour’s departure in a letter on Monday, saying the two sides had “agreed to part ways” following recent discussions, Sky News reported.
Lamour publicly criticized the proposal last month, saying that FIFA employees had been “misled” about the plan and described it as a one-person project.
Lamour had joined FIFA in November 2024, after being part of Infantino’s inner circle that led his election campaign for the presidency of the federation in 2016.
