A porn project, Epstein, and hidden influence... Who is the wife of the Anthropic president?

A new report has revealed details that were not widely known about Cami Clarke, the wife of Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, highlighting her past career and connections in the financial and technology circles, in addition to the unofficial role she plays behind the scenes of the company that developed the artificial intelligence model “Cloud.”

According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal, Clark does not hold an official position at Anthropic, but she plays an influential role as a close advisor to her husband, helping him communicate with investors and political figures, in addition to attending with him at a number of important conferences and events.

But the most controversial part of the report dates back to a stage that preceded Clarke’s association with Amodei, when she went through various experiences in the business world, including an attempt to launch a project for pornographic content directed at women under the name “Edis.”

During this stage, Clark contacted American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who later became one of the most famous sex offenders in the United States, in an attempt to obtain support for her projects. Published information indicates that the communication between them extended for a period, and that Epstein did not invest in the project.

The report also indicated that her connection to Epstein came through John Brockman, a literary agent known for his extensive connections in scientific and technological circles, who contributed to linking Epstein with a number of academics and prominent figures.

This relationship bears special sensitivity due to the record of Epstein, who was a wealthy American financier and wove a wide network of relationships with influential figures before he was convicted in a sex case, then arrested again in 2019 on federal charges related to sex trafficking of minors. He died in prison in the same year while awaiting trial.

The “EDIS” experiment was not the only unconventional project in Clark’s career, as her name was later associated with other projects before she gradually moved into the circles of technology, health, and artificial intelligence.

One of the most prominent moments in her personal and professional life was her previous relationship with Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, before her relationship with Amodei. The Wall Street Journal reports that Clark later helped introduce Schmidt to Amode, before Schmidt became an early investor in Anthropic.

Clark’s relationship with Amodei began in 2014, years before Anthropic was founded, and they married in 2022. As Amodei rose to become one of the most prominent faces in the global artificial intelligence race, his wife remained relatively out of the limelight despite her activity behind the scenes.

According to the report, Clark’s role goes beyond providing personal advice, as she uses her extensive network of relationships to connect Amodei with investors, political figures, and players in the technology sector, which gave her informal influence around one of the most important artificial intelligence companies in the world.

She was also credited with a role in connecting prominent figures within the technology sector to each other, a reflection of the network of relationships she had built over the years in Silicon Valley.

This information comes at a very sensitive time for Anthropic, which has become a major player in the global competition to develop advanced artificial intelligence models, while “Cloud” has become one of its most prominent and widespread products.

Amodei has also recently emerged in the American debate about the future of artificial intelligence, calling for more stringent legislation and controls to prevent the deployment of systems that may pose significant risks, which has made him one of the most prominent voices in the controversy surrounding the relationship between technology companies and the American government.

Thus, the importance of the “Wall Street Journal” report is not limited to Clark’s personal past or her previous relationships, but rather focuses more on the amount of influence that a person without any official status can exercise within a company whose decisions and technologies have become of interest to governments and investors around the world.
