The “WhatsApp” platform has begun testing a new feature that allows users to save the “Username” of the new contact, along with their name and phone number, as part of paving the way for the comprehensive launch of the communication feature via unique identifiers without the need to share personal numbers.
The new “User Name” field appears between the first and last name fields and the phone number section when creating a new contact within the application. According to technical reports, in the future, WhatsApp will seek to fill this field automatically from the conversation information screen, which will facilitate linking the data of people and companies to their unique identifier in the address book.
This step is an extension of the stage of reserving user names that the platform previously launched to enhance privacy and limit the sharing of personal numbers, as the feature is currently available to a number of trial version testers and some users of stable versions in preparation for its global rollout.
