Honor has launched its new “Robot Phone” in China, in a move that the company describes as the beginning of a “new era” in the world of cinematography via smartphones.
The phone features a 200-megapixel main camera mounted on a three-axis moving mechanical system, which can automatically move the camera horizontally and vertically based on artificial intelligence, with the aim of keeping people and targets within the photographic frame.
The phone includes three rear cameras, including a 200-megapixel main camera with an f/1.6 lens aperture, a 200-megapixel telescopic zoom lens with 2.7x optical zoom, in addition to a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a viewing angle of 122 degrees.
Honor also announced a partnership with ARRI, a company specializing in cinematography technologies, to provide technologies including ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3, and ARRI Looks, in addition to the company’s H1 imaging chip.
The phone relies on artificial intelligence techniques to identify and track people, in addition to recognizing gestures and identifying the source of sound, allowing the camera to move automatically while filming.
The “Robot Phone” comes with a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen, a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 6800 nits, along with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a battery with a capacity of 7060 mAh, with support for 120-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging.
Honor has begun receiving pre-orders for the phone in China, at a price starting at 9,999 yuan, or about $1,482, and it will be officially launched in the Chinese market on August 18.
