The ground is shaking in Zahle... and the National Center reveals the details

The National Center for Geophysics of the National Council for Scientific Research recorded an earthquake in the Zahle region, on the evening of Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The center explained, in a statement, that the earthquake occurred at 19:12 local time, and its magnitude reached 2.4 on the Richter scale, noting that its location was determined in the Zahle region.

The National Center for Geophysics monitors seismic activity in Lebanon and its surrounding areas through a network of monitoring stations, and determines the locations of tremors, their strength and timing, within the seismic monitoring and tsunami warning system.

Lebanon is one of the regions that witnesses varying seismic activity, so the Center periodically records earthquakes of different strengths, including mild tremors that do not necessarily lead to damage.
