The Iranian “Tasnim” agency reported that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, received a phone call from the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, during which the latest regional developments were discussed, especially the developments that the region witnessed during the past week.
According to the agency, during the call, the two sides discussed bilateral issues between Lebanon and Iran, with a special focus on the situation in Lebanon in light of the rapid political and security developments.
This contact comes at a time when there is intense political and diplomatic activity against the backdrop of regional developments, especially after the announcement of the “Framework Agreement” between Lebanon and Israel under American sponsorship, and the differing positions it raised at the internal and external levels, in addition to the continued Israeli attacks on areas in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon and Iran maintain open channels of political communication, especially through the existing relationship between the Speaker of Parliament and the Iranian leadership, as the current stage is witnessing an intensification of communications in light of the changes taking place in the region, whether at the level of international negotiations or security and military files.
These contacts gain additional importance in light of the continued research into the future of the truce on the southern border, and the implementation of the latest understandings, in addition to the ongoing discussion about the future of Hezbollah’s weapons, and the role that regional powers can play in the next stage, amid international efforts to stabilize stability and prevent the region from sliding into a new confrontation, in parallel with continuing Lebanese efforts to stabilize the official position and maintain internal stability.
