France has escalated its warnings regarding Russian movements on the European continent, considering that the repeated violations of NATO airspace, in parallel with what Paris called “hybrid attacks,” represent an escalating threat to the security and stability of Europe.
In statements to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath channels, the French army spokesman confirmed that the repeated Russian violations of NATO countries’ airspace constitute a serious threat to the stability of the continent, pointing out that the “hybrid attacks” planned by Moscow against European countries represent an additional source of threat. Despite efforts to strengthen European self-defense capabilities, the spokesman stressed that these efforts are based on a close and ongoing defense partnership with the United States.
In the same context, the spokesman revealed the desire of a number of European countries to limit the activity of what is known as the Russian “shadow fleet,” as part of efforts aimed at restricting the mechanisms that Moscow uses to circumvent the international sanctions imposed on it. The “shadow fleet” means the network of ships and tankers that Russia uses – according to Western accusations – to transport oil and goods in isolation from traditional control and sanctions mechanisms.
On the other hand, the French army spokesman announced that the “coalition of the willing” is fully prepared to provide security guarantees to Ukraine whenever circumstances permit, which reflects the continued European coordination to formulate security arrangements in anticipation of any future stage of the conflict.
These positions coincide with the escalation of tension between Russia and NATO countries, especially in the air and sea areas surrounding the Baltic Sea and Eastern Europe, at a time when the Ukrainian war continues amid growing fears of the expansion of the scope of direct friction between European capitals and Moscow.
In light of these developments, European countries are seeking to raise the efficiency of their defense capabilities and secure their borders and waterways, in integration with the American security umbrella, which remains a fundamental pillar within the NATO system.
