During an official visit to the Qatari capital, Doha, Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani opened a practical path to enhance the presence of Lebanese agricultural products in the Qatari market. The move aims to expand foreign markets for national production, support the recovery of the agricultural sector in southern Lebanon, and attract new investments that enhance food security.
Minister Hani held a series of official and economic meetings focused on developing bilateral agricultural relations, supporting farmers’ steadfastness, and opening new horizons for Lebanese exports, as part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s movement to expand Arab cooperation and attract investment partnerships.
In this context, Hani met – in the presence of the Lebanese Ambassador to Qatar, Bilal Qabalan – with the Qatari Minister of Municipality, Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah, where the discussions focused on three main axes. The first axis was to enhance Lebanese agricultural exports to the Qatari market by addressing commercial, logistical and procedural obstacles, in a way that raises the competitiveness of the products.
The second axis dealt with supporting the recovery of the agricultural sector in southern Lebanon. Hani presented the extent of the damage to lands, facilities, and infrastructure as a result of the war, and the needs for rehabilitation, land reclamation, and revitalizing production chains to stabilize farmers on their lands. In the third axis, the development of investment and development partnerships was discussed by presenting the National Agriculture Strategy (2026-2035) and the agricultural investment plan, and exploring opportunities for cooperation in modernizing agricultural production, innovation and sustainable management of resources.
Minister Al-Attiyah expressed his readiness to enhance cooperation with Lebanon, and the two sides agreed to set a joint work agenda for follow-up and coordination until January 2027. The meeting also discussed Lebanon’s participation in the international agricultural exhibition “Agritec” scheduled to be held in Qatar at the same time to expand the horizons of trade exchange.
In a parallel station, Hani held a meeting at the Lebanese Embassy in Doha with a group of fruit and vegetable importers, devoted to discussing the challenges facing the entry of Lebanese products into the Qatari market and practical ways to facilitate their flow. The Minister listened to the importers’ comments, and the two sides agreed to identify priority files to follow up with the relevant Qatari authorities in coordination between the embassy and the Ministry of Agriculture team.
These meetings come to place the Lebanese agricultural sector with a real opportunity to expand its presence in the Gulf, attract investments that contribute to revitalizing agriculture, especially in the affected areas, and transform strategic plans into actual, implementable projects.
