Intensive diplomatic movements: Al-Sudani visits Baghdad, Beirut, and Damascus on an upcoming tour

In an accelerating regional move, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi will head next week, at the head of a high-level government delegation, on an official visit that includes Lebanon and Syria, following a Gulf tour that included Saudi Arabia and will continue in Kuwait.

An Iraqi government source explained to the local “Shafaq” agency that the visit will begin its stops in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, before Al-Zaidi and his accompanying delegation move to the Syrian capital, Damascus, and then return to Baghdad. The talks are scheduled to discuss a number of common issues and files, as well as strengthening frameworks of bilateral cooperation and political, security and economic coordination.

This diplomatic tour comes as an extension of Baghdad’s movements on various Arab and regional lines, and a few days after Al-Zaidi made an official visit to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, last Wednesday, as part of a Gulf tour that also includes Kuwait.

It is noteworthy that the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to Riyadh was scheduled for last July, but it was postponed due to the rapid security developments in the region, which at that time included an American-Saudi bombing that targeted the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq.
