The former head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, recalled Lieutenant General Saad El-Din El-Shazly, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces during the October 1973 War, through a brief post with historical significance, which he published through his official account on the “X” platform.
Jumblatt published the phrase: “Lieutenant General Saad al-Din al-Shazly is one of the heroes of the October War,” accompanying it with an archive photo of the Egyptian military commander in uniform giving the military salute.
Lieutenant General Al-Shazly enjoys a prominent position as one of the most important military leaders who led the October War, as he assumed the position of Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces during that critical phase, and played a pivotal role in planning military operations and implementing the Suez Canal crossing operation.
This publication comes in the context of Jumblatt’s keenness to bring to mind the Arab military symbols and stations that shaped the history of the region, highlighting Chadli as one of the most prominent faces of that war.
