Unprecedented escalation: Real Madrid opens a new front against Barcelona in the title file

The “Negrira case” entered a new turn, following the European Football Association’s (UEFA) announcement that it had received a huge file of documents submitted by Real Madrid, as part of the ongoing investigations into the accusations against FC Barcelona.

According to what was revealed by the Spanish newspaper “AS”, Real Madrid demanded decisive sporting sanctions against its traditional rival, most notably stripping Barcelona of the titles it won during the period between 2001 and 2018, which coincided with controversial financial payments to companies owned by Jose Maria Enriquez Negrera, the former vice president of the Spanish Referees Committee.

This escalation comes as an extension of a previous step taken by the Royal Club last June, when it submitted an official file to the disciplinary bodies of UEFA, demanding that investigations into the case be reopened and that the necessary disciplinary measures be taken against the Catalan club.

Until now, the file is still subject to legal and disciplinary procedures, and no final decision has been issued to withdraw Barcelona’s titles or exclude it from European competitions, pending the results of the European Union’s official investigations.
