Today, the Saudi capital, Riyadh, hosted a high-level meeting of the chiefs of staff of the countries of the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement,” in a move that carries firm messages about the Kingdom’s security and regional stability.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the meeting was devoted to reviewing the current security situation and the nature of the threats targeting the Kingdom’s lands. In the same context, the Chiefs of Staff of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan expressed their strong condemnation of the attacks that targeted Mecca and Saudi civilian infrastructure.
The attendees renewed their firm commitment to the principle of collective defense, affirming their solid will to defend the security of the Kingdom. The army commanders also agreed to immediately begin translating the provisions of the Mecca Agreement into practical steps and effective military cooperation on the ground, in a way that strengthens the system of deterrence and joint defense among member states.
