The distinguished Jaafari Mufti, Sheikh Ahmed Qabalan, called on the Arab and Islamic countries to conclude a broad regional settlement independent of American and Israeli interference, considering that the current circumstances impose a redrawing of relations between the countries of the region in light of the current crisis of the international system.
Qabalan explained, in a message addressed to the capitals of the region, that the intersection of identity and basic interests requires urgent action to secure the terms of this settlement, referring in particular to Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan, along with Turkey, Iraq, Egypt, and Yemen. He accused Washington and Tel Aviv of being behind the region’s crises and the estrangement between its countries to implement what he described as “maps of ruin.”
The Mufti believed that Riyadh and Tehran have the greatest ability to “turn the strategic cards” and launch a major and different settlement path. He called on Saudi Arabia to “launch a new beginning,” especially with regard to Yemen, pointing out that Tehran is racing against time to secure the conditions for this transformation, and calling on the three countries (Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan) to have a real will to launch this path.
He considered that the continuation of the regional rift gives the United States and Israel the ability to impose their agendas, warning that the alternative is for the Middle East to turn into “trenches, annihilation, and entities consumed by atrocities.”
Qabalan concluded by stressing that the solution passes through a partnership that brings together Tehran, Riyadh, Pakistan, Egypt, Yemen, Turkey, Iraq, and Lebanon, calling on the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to read the new transformations in the Middle East, and warning that “any gamble with historical achievements in favor of Washington is considered eternal suicide,” the repercussions of which will affect the entire region.
