The Hebrew newspaper “Maariv” revealed a change in the method of action of the Northern Command of the Israeli army regarding the threats attributed to Hezbollah, after the Al-Majdal area incident, which, according to the newspaper, resulted in the killing of two and the injury of 4 others.
The newspaper reported that the Northern Command decided to reduce as much as possible the risks to which ground forces are exposed, after a series of incidents in which soldiers were injured as a result of explosions inside buildings or during direct clashes and ambushes.
According to Maariv, the new trend is based on removing the threat before ground forces enter the region, by intensifying artillery and air strikes against facilities that Israel considers suspicious or capable of monitoring the movements of its forces and exposing them to danger.
The newspaper indicated that, in recent weeks, the Israeli army has been carrying out repeated attacks on facilities in what it described as the “yellow line” area in Lebanon, using artillery shells and “Bar” missiles, in parallel with extensive air operations.
She added that the firing centers of the 91st and 36th Divisions have intensified the use of warplanes in recent days to destroy these facilities, with the aim of reducing the risks to the movement of forces.
According to the newspaper, operations during the past days, including the last 24 hours, included sites in the Ali Al-Taher Heights area near Nabatieh, Majdal Zoun, Marwin and other areas, while some strikes were carried out at night with the aim of securing the movement of forces.
She also pointed out that the Israeli army sends notices almost daily to residents of the northern settlements to inform them in advance that explosions can be heard from the Lebanese side, noting that the operations are focused on buildings that Israeli information says may be booby-trapped.
According to Maariv, the Israeli army had previously used this mechanism in Gaza and the areas of southern Lebanon, but the Air Force’s readiness to operate in the south has become greater at the current stage.
