The “Hand of God” ball sold for $3.3 million

The ball with which Argentine Diego Maradona scored his famous goal with his hand against England during the 1986 World Cup was sold for $3.3 million at an auction organized by the American “Heritage” house.

The price was much lower than estimates that estimated the value of the ball to reach about $10 million.

The ball was used in the quarter-final match, which Argentina won 2-1, and also witnessed Maradona scoring his exceptional goal after dribbling five English players, which was later chosen as the “Goal of the Century.”

The Tunisian match referee, Ali Bennacer, kept the ball for more than three decades, before selling it in 2022 for $2.37 million. Maradona’s shirt was previously sold in the same match for 7.1 million pounds sterling.
