Representative Major General Jamil Al-Sayyed criticized what he described as reliance on external pressure to demand that Israel stop its operations and implement the framework agreement, questioning the feasibility of appealing to countries that do not have sufficient influence on Israel, at a time when, according to him, the American guarantee linked to the agreement has not been activated.
Al-Sayed said in a post on his account on the “X” platform: “Where have we reached today?! Currently, whenever a foreign or international guest or official visits us, we hear the pillars of our state calling on the world to put pressure on Israel to stop its attacks and implement the framework agreement.”
He added that, during the past two days, President Joseph Aoun visited the Vatican and met with the Prime Minister of Italy, and appealed to the world from there “to deter Israel and put pressure on it to implement that agreement.”
Al-Sayyid continued: “After all Lebanon’s concessions in the direct negotiations and in the framework agreement, after the President of the Republic’s visit to the White House and his meeting with Trump, and after our celebrations of these historic achievements, a simple question must be asked: Why are we begging for the help of countries that do not provide a straw to Israel?”
He asked: “As long as the most powerful country in the world and the most influential on Israel, led by our friend Trump, has not yet exercised its guarantee to implement an agreement that was signed in its embrace?”
Al-Sayyid concluded by asking: “Is it true that what was told to the Lebanese people about that guarantee was a Lebanese invention to justify those concessions and has no basis in America?”
