Rainfall exceeds 50 mm in Beirut...an exceptional depression hits Lebanon: Caution is required!

An unusual weather warning precedes Monday’s weather, in a scene that is considered surprising compared to the beginning of May, as the latest updates issued by numerical models, according to what the head of the estimates department at the Meteorological Authority, Muhammad Kanj, confirmed in an interview with “Lebanon Debyte,” that Lebanon is affected by an active air depression that carries with it sharp fluctuations and noticeable differences between one region and another.

King explained that the weather will be densely cloudy, with fog forming starting at low altitudes, leading to a noticeable decline in visibility, especially in mountainous areas.

He also added that temperatures will drop sharply, ranging between 6 and 10 degrees Celsius below their seasonal averages, especially in the interior and at highlands.

Regarding precipitation, King confirmed that the rain will be heavy to very heavy at times, accompanied by thunderstorms and active winds that may reach speeds of 70 km/h, especially in the northern regions.

He continued that updated estimates indicate the possibility of rainfall amounts exceeding 50 mm in some areas, especially around the capital, Beirut, which is equivalent to about three times the normal rate for the month of May, while amounts remain lower in other areas.

As for snow, King explained that it will fall at an altitude of 1,800 meters during the day, and touch 1,700 meters at night, without recording significant accumulations below the level of 2,000 metres.

In the same context, King stressed that the peak of the impact of this depression will be recorded from Monday afternoon until Tuesday morning, which is the most severe period in terms of heavy rain and wind activity.

King concluded by noting that the effect of the depression will begin to gradually recede starting Tuesday evening, with weather conditions improving on Wednesday, with a gradual return to rising temperatures starting on Thursday.
