Anger among users "YouTube" Because of a new update.. What's the story?

A new update launched by the YouTube platform sparked a widespread wave of dissatisfaction among users, following the introduction of radical modifications to the design of the navigation bar during November 2026, most notably the removal of the “Subscriptions” tab from its usual location, which escalated the difficulty of accessing the channels that users follow.

According to a report published by the “BGR” news website, the “Subscriptions” option lost its appearance in the bottom navigation bar, after the platform moved it to a top menu separating the “Home” and “Movies and TV” options. This step sparked sharp criticism, one of which was quoted by a user on the Reddit platform who denounced: “Who decided that this was a good design?”

The modifications were not limited to that, but also included the removal of the “Library” tab, which now forces users to go to their personal files to access viewing history, downloads, playlists, and other options that were previously available directly. In the same context, the platform adopted a new design for the navigation bar, which features a “liquid glass” appearance and floating elements.

The report indicated that these amendments may be part of YouTube’s efforts to simplify the navigation bar and reduce its congestion, while highlighting the services that it seeks to encourage users to adopt, specifically short video clips. Through this, the platform seeks to enhance the presence of its short content in the face of fierce competition from “Tik Tok” and “Instagram Reels.”

However, this approach was not unanimously welcomed. The wide spread of “Shorts” clips in viewing feeds sparked criticism from users who prefer long content, and some of them decided to disable their appearance because they believed they were unnecessary.

Despite these criticisms, YouTube kept the “Shorts” tab in the main navigation bar, alongside “Home,” “Profile,” and the “Upload” button, which allows content creators to shoot and publish video clips and start broadcasting directly from their devices. The report considered that keeping this button and allocating a prominent space for short clips reflects the platform’s continued strategy of giving priority to this type of content, which forces users to adapt to a new interface that comes at the expense of options they are accustomed to using daily.
