Recent research revealed that there is a list of more than 100,000 words and phrases that are excluded by the text prediction feature on Apple devices, forcing users to type them manually without the help of a keyboard.
According to what was published by the British newspaper “The Guardian”, this list includes sensitive and controversial political and security expressions, most notably the phrases “Dictator Trump,” “Tibetan independence,” and “occupied territories” in Hebrew, in addition to the phrase “Hamas Movement” in Arabic.
Independent researcher Derek Kaufman came up with this list, which was described as “gray,” after noticing that his iPhone avoided completing certain phrases automatically, which later led him to find an encrypted table within the company’s operating system.
For its part, Apple explained that the keyboard design aims to avoid providing predictive suggestions that may be considered inappropriate or offensive, stressing at the same time that users retain the full ability to manually write any words or phrases they want.
