The Egyptian Football Association decided, on Saturday, to end Hossam Hassan’s mission in leading the first national football team, and to appoint Ali Maher as his successor, just six days before the expected confrontation against the Malawi national team in the 2027 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Federation explained in an official statement that the Board of Directors took the decision to assign Maher to lead the team’s technical staff during the next stage, thanking Hossam Hassan for his previous efforts and wishing him success in his next steps.
This dismissal comes a few hours after the Federation issued a statement in which it called on the fans and the media to support the team and avoid escalation, without deciding the fate of the technical staff at the time.
Ali Maher begins his new mission leading the “Pharaohs” in two decisive matches against Malawi, scheduled for November 13 and 17. It is noteworthy that the Egyptian national team began its campaign in Group Two with a draw at home against Angola, before achieving a broad 5-0 victory over South Sudan in the latter’s capital, Juba.
