Fermin Lopez, the Spanish FC Barcelona midfielder, refused to compare him to the late Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona, after he equaled his scoring tally with the Catalan club, stressing that every player has his own career on the field.
In a press interview with the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Lopez commented on his reaching his 38th goal in a Barca shirt – the same number that Maradona scored during his career with the club – saying: “They are just numbers. I cannot compare myself to a player of Maradona’s size, as each person has his own path,” expressing at the same time his happiness with this achievement and his aspiration to continue scoring.
Comparing scoring goals and making them, the player, who also provided 36 assists, explained that he prefers scoring goals, despite his full awareness of the importance of creating opportunities and helping his teammates.
Lopez attributed the secret of the great understanding between him and his colleague Lamine Jamal to their old friendship dating back to the years before their promotion to the first team, stressing that this strong relationship contributes greatly to facilitating their harmony inside the green rectangle.
Regarding the competition for the starting places with his colleague Dani Olmo, Lopez described this competition as positive and healthy, noting that it motivates both players to provide their best levels for the benefit of the team.
In terms of recent results, the Barcelona star admitted that the El Clásico match against Real Madrid was not one of the team’s best matches, while he stressed, on the other hand, that the Catalan club was a strong match for its French counterpart, Paris Saint-Germain, despite the loss and exclusion against them in the tournament.
