In the first direct official position regarding the issue of the “Dahr Al-Baidar” truck, which raised widespread security concerns, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed that the course of the investigation will not be limited to arresting the drivers, but will move forward to uncover all those involved and the parties behind the operation and refer them to the judiciary.
In a tweet published today, Monday, on the “X” platform, Salam stressed the slogan “Neither leniency nor connivance, but truth and accountability,” recalling the interception of the truck a few days ago in the Dahr al-Baidar area, as it was heading from the Bekaa towards Greater Beirut, loaded with hundreds of kilograms of explosive materials, most notably the highly explosive “C-4.”
The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the security forces in seizing the truck and its cargo, arresting its drivers, and referring them for investigation, considering that this measure represents a pivotal step in addressing the issue. In this context, he expressed his understanding of the state of popular anxiety caused by the news, especially since Article C-4 is strongly present in the Lebanese memory linked to the file of political assassinations over the past decades.
Salam reiterated his emphasis on expanding and intensifying investigations to determine the identity of all parties involved, their plans and goals, leading to holding them judicially accountable. He stressed that the government will never tolerate any violation of the country’s security and stability, stressing that any manifestations of the possession, transfer, or use of weapons outside the framework of legality will be dealt with with complete decisiveness.
The Prime Minister’s positions coincide with the continuation of judicial and security investigations into the circumstances of the “Dahr al-Baydar” case, amid intense official and popular interest in clarifying the circumstances of the shipment and its route, thus re-highlighting the danger of the spread of explosive materials and illegal weapons and their freedom of movement between Lebanese regions.
