At 11:00 noon tomorrow, Tuesday, the Chairman of the Executive Council of Hezbollah, Sheikh Ali Damoush, will hold a press conference to announce the details of the new shelter project under the title “A Promise and Commitment.” This announcement comes as a translation of what was announced by the Secretary-General of the party, Sheikh Naeem Qassim, regarding the launch of a project dedicated to sheltering those affected by the war, specifically the people of villages whose homes were completely destroyed.
Informed sources in Hezbollah reported to the “Lebanon Debate” website that during the conference, Sheikh Damoush will present the basic titles of the project and its implementation mechanisms, in addition to revealing details related to financial allocations, contributions, and the mechanism for benefiting those affected, with the aim of putting an end to circulating speculation about the nature and size of the aid.
The upcoming announcement is of particular importance in light of the questions raised about funding sources and the ability to secure the necessary funds, in conjunction with the restrictions and financial blockade imposed on the party. This comes amid huge financial needs imposed by the widespread damage and scale of destruction, which includes residents of border villages, residents of other villages whose homes were destroyed in the two wars, as well as those affected in the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Bekaa.
Regarding the value of the potential aid, the sources indicated that the project would likely include a housing allowance of approximately $10,000 for the beneficiary, while a furniture allowance of approximately $6,000 would likely be allocated to each beneficiary, with the latter limited to those who lost their original homes during the Second War.
The sources refused to anticipate the official announcement regarding the total allocated financial allocations, but they confirmed that the specialized technical teams had completed comprehensive studies to assess the damages and determine the needs, in preparation for adopting a mechanism that meets the requirements of those affected and clarifies the benefits of the contributions.
Attention is turning to tomorrow’s conference to find out the executive framework of the “Promise and Commitment” project, the volume of aid included, and the criteria adopted to determine the beneficiaries, amid serious challenges facing the devastated areas that require re-securing housing for those affected.
