Representative Jamil Al-Sayyid launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s speech before the United Nations, criticizing its lack of any complaint or condemnation of Israeli violations in southern Lebanon, and comparing it to the position of Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
In his post on the “X” platform, Al-Sayed indicated that he read the word peace, in his capacity as “the former president of the International Court of Justice,” noting the absence of any mention of “a single word, complaint, or condemnation” for what he described as Israel’s crimes in the south. He explained that the violations include targeting journalists, medical staff, and civilians, destroying hospitals and schools, and bulldozing villages and homes, as well as stealing old trees and burning forests using internationally banned phosphorus bombs.
On the other hand, Al-Sayyed praised the speech of Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, pointing out that he strongly condemned the Israeli attacks, and detailed the violations, air strikes, arrests, and the expansion of the occupation from the Golan towards Damascus. Al-Sayyed recalled what Al-Sharaa conveyed in a dialogue seminar that preceded his speech, when he narrated that he had joked with US President Donald Trump by saying: “If you are keen to give Israel some land, and you do not own the Golan, why don’t you give them the state of New Jersey?”
Al-Sayyid concluded by directing sharp criticism of the Lebanese participation in the New York meetings, considering that the Lebanese delegation went “to beg, cry, and quackery with empty slogans and arguments,” at a time when the people and the land are exposed to continuous crimes. He also criticized Lebanon’s commitment to the framework agreement, noting that Israel “did not implement a single word of it,” and concluded his comment by saying: “Two wastes of gasoline on the plane from Beirut to New York.”
