The Director General of the Agricultural Scientific Research Authority, Dr. Michel Antoine Afram, warned that the drought crisis will be exacerbated during a month from now, so that he does not expect rain before October 15, and therefore the scarcity of water will overwhelm the water reality in Lebanon if it is from surface water or groundwater, and therefore agricultural seasons are currently threatened with drought and that the lip water is threatened with a large decline that has not been unprecedented.
Afram called for a harsh legalization of the distribution of lip water and the use of modern technologies in irrigation of crops, most of which cannot be secured irrigation water during this season, that is, the fall season, which will negatively affect agricultural production in quantity, quality and prices. He pointed out that many areas of scarcity of the lip water due to the phenomenon of drought, which are exacerbated day after day, are still contaminated by the remaining surface water and groundwater, which has dramatically decreased its contamination with sewage water and watering water, which makes it unusable, calling on the cabinet to a water emergency due to the strong scarcity of the water.
