The Lebanese universities team in futsal (futsal) achieved a historic achievement by reaching the quarter-finals of the World University Championships held in the Polish capital, Warsaw, after its great victory over the United States of America team with a score of 5-1 in the second round of the group stage.

The Lebanese national team raised its score to 6 points, after it had opened its campaign by defeating Georgia 2-1, to secure its qualification to the quarter-finals, while retaining the opportunity to seize the top spot in the group in the upcoming confrontation against the French national team.

The Lebanese team imposed its advantage from the beginning of the match, and ended the first half with a two-0 lead, before strengthening its advantage with three goals in the second half, confirming its strong presence in the tournament.

Ali Hammam excelled by scoring three “hat-trick” goals, while Adonis Ghattas and Mohsen Mohsen scored the other two goals.

After the match, Spanish coach Ricardo Calapuig expressed his happiness with the achievement, praising the comprehensive performance presented by the players, the tactical discipline and the strong personality demonstrated by the team, stressing that the result reflects the continuous work, commitment of the players and their belief in their ability to compete against the strongest teams.

He added that the team is proud to represent Lebanon on the international stage, stressing that the journey is not over yet, and that the team will continue to fight to achieve more achievements.

In the women’s competition, the Lebanese national team lost to its German counterpart with a score of 4-1, after it had begun its participation by defeating Finland 2-1, with Amina Karima scoring the only Lebanese goal.
