US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, renewed Washington’s decisive position rejecting Iran’s possession of a nuclear weapon, stressing that the current administration has not ignored the Iranian threat, and stressing that President Donald Trump chose to confront Tehran to protect the United States and its way of life, instead of overlooking its file.
Rubio’s statements came on Friday evening, during the annual “CPAC” conference of conservatives and Republicans, at a time when American efforts continue, led by Vice President J.D. Vance, to conduct indirect negotiations with Tehran aimed at reaching an agreement to end the conflict.
In the same context, President Donald Trump escalated his tone during his statements in West Palm Beach, Florida, warning that Iran would have destroyed the Middle East and obliterated Israel if it had possessed nuclear weapons. However, Trump indicated that Tehran is desperately seeking to conclude an agreement at the present time, affected by the severe damage to its economy and army as a result of eight months of war.
On the security level, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced, via the “X” platform, a financial reward of up to $20 million, with the possibility of resettlement, in exchange for providing information related to the Iranian nuclear program, including facilities, equipment, and people associated with it, especially those working in the scientific field.
The US State Department explained that this measure comes in light of Tehran’s intransigence and non-compliance with the safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which withheld vital information about the production and stock of basic components, such as centrifuges, despite Trump’s previous assertions that US forces destroyed the Iranian nuclear program.
These developments reflect the duality of American moves on the negotiating and security tracks, between efforts to conclude a political agreement and continued pressure through intelligence rewards to reveal the details of the Iranian nuclear program.
