Real Madrid intends to give tennis legend Rafael Nadal a seat on its board of directors

The Spanish club Real Madrid officially announced the nomination of retired tennis legend Rafael Nadal to join its board of directors, in a step that paves the way for him to assume a new administrative role within the corridors of the Royal Club.

The club explained in its statement that the Board of Directors approved the offer to appoint Nadal, provided that the decision will be presented to the General Assembly of members for approval at its meeting scheduled to be held on November 21.

For his part, Nadal (40 years old) expressed his great happiness with this nomination, thanking club president Florentino Perez and the members of the board of directors, and confirming that he accepted the invitation with full enthusiasm, and his great desire to learn and contribute effectively to the future of the club.

Nadal is considered one of the most prominent tennis legends in the history of the game. He won 22 titles in the four major “Grand Slam” tournaments (including a record 14 titles in the French Open), in addition to winning two Olympic gold medals, before the curtain came down on his professional career with his retirement in November 2024.

The Spanish star has a close and long relationship with Real Madrid, where he has held an honorary membership since 2011, in addition to his strong and solid relationship with club president Florentino Perez.

It is noteworthy that Nadal’s name had previously been put forward as a possible candidate to succeed Perez as president of the club, but at the time he reduced the possibilities of assuming this position, while his expected joining of the Board of Directors remains subject to the official approval of the General Assembly.
