Ammar blasts it in the face of the US State Department: The Lebanese know best their interests

A member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Lebanese Parliament, Representative Ali Ammar, escalated his tone towards the US administration, in response to statements made by the US State Department spokesman, accusing Washington of blatant interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs and influencing its national choices.

In a statement, Ammar described the American position as “shameless bravado and continuous public interference in various aspects of Lebanese life,” considering that Washington and what he described as its “tools at home” are targeting every figure who expresses positions from a national standpoint, by accusing him of putting personal interests ahead of the country’s interests.

The Lebanese MP stressed that this approach based on guardianship has reached “dangerous and unprecedented” levels that can no longer be ignored, warning of American interventions affecting the judicial affairs that affect its independence, in addition to the provocative statements and meetings held by the American embassy in Awkar with official and media officials.

He pointed out that these meetings aim, from his point of view, to “incite the Lebanese, stir up strife, influence internal choices, and work to change national constants in the service of Israel,” considering that these practices constitute “a blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and an assault on its free national decision.”

Ammar called on the United States to immediately stop interfering in Lebanese affairs and adhere to diplomatic norms, stressing that “Lebanon will not be an American protectorate, and the Lebanese know best their interests and how to manage their affairs.”

In this context, he called on the Lebanese authority to emerge from what he described as “a state of impotence and weakness,” and to take a “national and resolute” position that would put an end to these violations, and assume constitutional responsibilities in preserving sovereignty and independence of decision-making.

This escalation comes within the framework of a heated political debate taking place in the Lebanese scene regarding the nature of the American role and the limits of its interference in internal files, both political and judicial, amid a clear difference in the positions of the political forces regarding the form of the relationship with Washington.
